For the past twenty-five years, Brian has been designing and building racing engines for Formula 2 and then Formula 1, with the Toleman, RAM, Jordan, Footwork and Arrows teams among his customers, but long before that he enjoyed a worthy career as a driver.
Between 1958 and 1963, Hart scored numerous wins in Formula Junior and sports car events with Lotus and Terrier chassis, taking third place in the Grovewood Awards for 1963.
Moving up to Formula 2, Brian gained an almost immediate victory in the Pergusa GP, driving a Ron Harris-entered Lotus, and although he stepped back into Formula 3 in 1966 he was to become an F2 mainstay, mostly racing for Bob Gerard, for whom he won the 1969 Rhine Cup race at Hockenheim after a great drive.
As his flourishing engine business grew, Hart inevitably found less time to go racing and he eventually retired at the end of 1971.
