Perrot was a Swiss garage owner who had been competing since the early sixties in strictly national racing and hill-climbs with machines such as an Abarth-Simca and then a Lotus 23.
In 1968 he purchased an ex-Winkelmann Racing Brabham to race in Formula 2, but found himself out of his depth. Not easily discouraged, Perrot was back for more in 1969, and by mid-season was looking more of a serious proposition, taking sixth in the F2 class in the German GP, and fourth in the Rhine Cup at Hockenheim. In 1970 he equipped himself with the latest March 702 and gained a somewhat lucky win in the Preis von Deutschland at the Nürburgring, which was the best result of the underrated Swiss driver's career. Perrot continued in Formula 2 in 1971 and into early 1972, gaining some useful results, and actually drove Siffert's March 701 in the Jochen Rindt Memorial Trophy F1 race at Hockenheim to finish 11th. Finding his F2 car ideally suited to hill-climbs, he successfully pursued this form of the sport thereafter.
